This page details the compatibility between KNIME Executor and KNIME Server, as well as KNIME Analytics Platform clients and KNIME Server.

Current KNIME Server Release Line 4.18.x

KNIME Server 4.18.1 release line (KNIME Analytics Platform 5.4)  (July 2025) KNIME Analytics Platform 5.4 must only be used as executor on KNIME Server 4.18.x. KNIME 4.18.x should not be used with KNIME Analytics Platform 5.3.x or previous versions, and use of 5.5.0 as an executor is also not recommended with Server 4.18.0.

Current KNIME Server Release Line 4.17.x

KNIME Server 4.17 release line (KNIME Analytics Platform 5.3)  (September 2024) KNIME Analytics Platform 5.3 must only be used as executor on KNIME Server 4.17.x. KNIME 4.17.x should not be used with KNIME Analytics Platform 5.4.x. We will have 4.18.x released soon with full compatibility with 5.4.x executor.

KNIME Server 4.16.x release line

KNIME Server 4.16 release line (KNIME Analytics Platform 4.7, 5.1, 5.2)  (December 2022) KNIME Analytics Platform 5.3 must not be used as executor on KNIME Server 4.16.x or before.

The following matrix shows the compatibility between KNIME Server installations and KNIME Executor installations. This does  not  show compatibility between local KNIME Analytics Platform client installations and KNIME Server. See the other matrix on this page for information related to this.

KNIME Server - KNIME Analytics Platform Client Compatibility Matrix

The following matrix shows the compatibility between  local  KNIME Analytics Platform client installations and  remote  KNIME Server installations.

Please note that even though it is possible to connect to an older version of KNIME Server from a newer version of KNIME Analytics Platform, there could be some restrictions in terms of workflow execution. Some features introduced in newer versions will not be available on an older KNIME Server (e.g. new nodes), causing problems during execution. Because of that, the default for all KNIME Server installations is to reject workflows created with newer versions of KNIME Analytics Platform.

To avoid any issues, we strongly encourage using a version of KNIME Analytics Platform from the same release line as your KNIME Server installation . Please reach out to your KNIME Server administrator in case you are unsure about which version of KNIME Server your organization is currently using.

On the other hand, it is often possible to connect to a newer version of KNIME Server from an older version of KNIME Analytics Platform. Please note that while this works, you will in many cases miss functionality, as is indicated in the table below.
